Spain exhibits Iran architecture beauty

The University of Almeria in Spain has held an exhibition of photos by Spanish architect Jose Maria Simon on splendor of Persian and Islamic architecture.

The exhibition titled ‘Fascinating Persia, Beauties of Islamic Geometry’ displayed the striking tiles and geometric motifs used in the religious and civil structures of Iran, the university’s public relations office announced recently.

In its inauguration ceremony on October 6, 2017, Iran's cultural attaché in Madrid Alireza Esmaeili appreciated cooperation of Almeria University and presented explanation concerning Iran's geographical and historical sites.

The attaché said the pictures are works of Spanish architect Jose Maria Simon during his visit to Iran. Simon had more than 5,000 pictures, mainly in Iran-Islamic architecture field.

The exhibition, which was held from October 6 to November 13, showcased about 40 of them.

In the closing ceremony held at the university on Monday, Esmaeili said the photos represented a small part of the sustainable Islamic Iranian architecture and examples can be observed in Spain after the spread of Islam.

Chancellor of the Almeria University Professor Carmelo Rodriguez Torreblanca delivered q short speech in the ceremony and appreciated Iran's cultural attaché for organizing the display.

Torreblanca also expressed his hope to provide further opportunities for Spanish people to further know Persian art.

The closing ceremony came to conclusion after a short speech by Pilar Garrido Clemente, the professor of Arab and Islamic studies at the University of Murcia, titled ‘Spiritual Geometry and Architecture in Iran’.
